Characteristics of the nymphs

The nymphs are also known as "carolinas" and have a between 25 and 33 centimeters in length, many of those from a long, thin tail. They also have a characteristic that other birds do not have, and that is the fact that they have a crest on the head.

Its wings are quite long and pointed, just like its tail, which in order to keep it well cared for requires a cage where it does not collide with the bars, that is, it must be high and quite wide.

Like other birds, such as lovebirds or parakeets, has a hooked beak, which not only uses it to eat, or "sing", but also makes use of it to climb, break or manipulate objects.

The usual plumage of the nymphs is gray with yellow, sometimes having orange cheeks. However, we know that there are different types of nymphs and mutations between them that mean that you can find other colors.

The behavior of the nymphs

Behaviorally, as long as you take good care of them and spend time with them, they will be very, very affectionate. They are animals that they like to live with others of their kind, but they also take humans as "guardians" and establish a very strong bond with them because of this. Therefore, considering that they are sociable and very intelligent, they are not birds that should be kept locked in a cage all day.

In addition, it is not recommended to have only one, but at least a couple, because the same thing happens with the lovebirds, they form very strong and inseparable bonds, and the human being cannot be a couple for them. And if what worries you is that because of this the attachment to the person is not strong, you can forget about it because it is, for them it represents a figure that gives them security, affection, pampering... regardless of their partner.

They are also very curious and playful. They love spending time with people playing games or encouraging them to explore. In fact, it's easy for it to follow you everywhere and keep an eye on you at all times. For them, you are like a protection, and that is why they give you their love.

How much do nymphs cost?

The nymphs are not "cheap" birds if we compare it with other smaller birds, although the price will depend to a large extent on the type or variety of these. For example, in the case of a gray or ancestral nymph, its price is cheap, between 30 and 35 euros for a copy. It is also the most common that is seen in stores or that breeders have.

However, if we go to other types of nymphs, we find more varied prices, including:

• Albino nymph: 50-55 euros.
• Lutina nymph: 35-45 euros.
• Cinnamon or Elizabethan: 30-35 euros.
• Pearl: 40-45 euros.
• Harlequin nymph: 40-45 euros.
• White face: 40-45 euros.

Apart from these, which are usually the most common, there are other variations that, by themselves, are difficult to find and that makes them even more expensive than the prices we have mentioned: pastel nymph, yellow face, silver face, olive...

In the animal kingdom there are many different types of nymphs. The best known, which can be found in pet stores or through breeders, are the following:

Ancient Gray Nymphs

These are the most common in pet stores and with breeders. They are characterized by having a yellow head and cheeks that can be red or orange. The part of the crest is yellow while the tail usually has gray and yellow spots.

Albino Nymphs

Albino nymphs, as their name indicates, are those that, due to a lack of melanin, they are totally white, and, in addition, they have red eyes, instead of the typical black ones of other nymphs. Otherwise, they are exactly the same and are considered to be a mix between the white-faced and lutino nymphs.

Nymph Lutino

The lutino nymphs are those that have the entire body yellow (some with dark spots). But its tonality in the body is of a light yellow while in the part of the head this tone increases, to a brighter one. It keeps the cheeks in red or yellow and the crest is also bright yellow feathers.

White Face Nymph

With a gray body in different shades, reaching black in some parts, it is characterized by having a very light gray head (in the part of the tips) and white on the head mask.

Harlequin or Spotted Nymph

It has a plumage very similar to that of the gray nymphs, but unlike these, the gray of its body is dotted with yellow and white tones in different shades and patterns. In fact, there will be nymphs that are more yellow than gray and others that are more gray than yellow. What they do maintain is the head with a yellow color (lighter and darker as it approaches the beak and crest), and orange or yellow cheeks.

Pearly Nymph

In this case, these nymphs are characterized by having uniform white and yellow spots. Has a gray base but dotted with yellow spots which can be larger or smaller. What does remain yellow is the part of the head and the crest (although some may have gray feathers on it).

Nymph Cinnamon or Isabela

It is a bird similar to the ancestral one but with a much softer tone turning beige or tan... Sometimes they are even said to be silver. Of course, they maintain a certain plumage in yellow, especially in the areas of the head and on the wings.
